How do you Picture Yourself in Heaven?

Good morning.

How do you picture yourself in heaven? Do you see yourself as an excited, yet inferior person walking among the spiritual giants such as Elijah, asking them all kinds of questions, or maybe you keep in the shadows of the background because you don’t feel worthy to be there, or would you feel comfortable in the company of the spiritual giants, chatting the time away about the greatness of the Lord?

Does the Bible give us any indication what we’ll be like in heaven?

Would you agree with me that a great person is content with himself, appears calm and collected, is comfortable with anybody with whom she interacts, knows what he’s talking about and makes others feel at home. Such a person could be trusted to take charge over responsibilities and will be faithful with it.

What must we do to be such a great person in God’s eyes? “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” (Matthew 5:21). Are we seeking to be great on earth, to be well-known and considered to be someone special, or are we content to be faithfully obedient with what the Lord asks of us every day? “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted,” (Matthew 23:12).

How do you see yourself in heaven?

“I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he,” (Luke 7:28). To be greater than John the Baptist... wow! How would you like to have fellowship with him as his friend? All the Lord desires of us in order to be the least, is a confident, quiet and childlike dependence on Him – no need to feel and act inferior.

“And he said: ‘I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven,’” (Matthew 18:3, 4), “Then he said to them, ‘Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among you all—he is the greatest,’” (Luke 8:48).

Can you perceive what this really entails? Does a little child think highly of herself, having great boasts? In order for us to welcome children we must accept them and become like them – let them be our role models in being the least. We can’t be proud if we’d really want to accommodate children. If we want to walk among the great in heaven, we’d better lessen ourselves to the level of children – all the time.

A son is a child who takes responsibility. Do you agree that sons of God will be comfortable among the great in heaven? “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God,” (Matthew 5:9). “For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God,” (Romans 8:13, 14). It makes you think, doesn’t it?

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed,” (Romans 8:18-21) – to start making a difference in Jesus name.

Lord, I’d love to be a son of God amongst your great people in heaven. Help me to meet the requirements.
