Get To Know the Lord through Abraham

Good morning.

Since we’ve looked at Abram’s relationship with the Lord in our previous two messages, the scene is set for another series on a Biblical man of God. We are going to look at Abram’s journey with the Lord and you may want to look at your own journey.

Abram was just an ordinary believer living his life with his family. I can imagine him having his daily quiet time when he heard: “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you, (Genesis 12:1-3)” We don’t know whether he heard the Lord audibly or in his spirit, but he certainly got the message. What a promise?

Have you sought the Lord’s will for your life? Whilst you read the Bible, has He sent you revelation word about what He’d like you to do? Has He sent you prophecy about His will for your life? I’ve been seeking the Lord’s will for my life and the Lord has been faithful in answering my prayers by sending me revelation word (rhema) and prophecies. We have to seek the Lord first and then He will answer. Abram was a godly man who was devoted to the Lord. The Lord searches the heart and would not have chosen a person He could not trust. All of us have qualities built into us, which the Lord wants to use in His Kingdom and He has His calling ready for you, but you won’t hear it if you don’t seek Him. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you,” (Matthew 7:7).

Abraham could have chosen to simply be an ordinary person striving for success in his career and keeping the Lord at a distance he chose, as so many of us do, but He obviously had an intimate relationship with the Lord. How about you? Is the Lord a tag on your busy life or is He your life? Are you so heavenly minded that you appear to be no earthly good as people like to say, or are you so earthly minded that you are not of any heavenly good? I’ve found that if one is completely ‘heavenly minded’, i.e. focused on the Lord, He looks after the earthly issues (Matthew 6:33).

“So Abram left, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran,” (Genesis 12:4). It is clear that Abraham were ready to go. He didn’t hesitate and, looking at his age, he probably first had a preparation period as had Moses, David, Jacob, Paul, etc.

When the Lord calls us He will give us repeated words of calling and encouragement, but He will prepare us for what we are to do. In the preparation process we may be involved in some kind of ministry, but it may be that we need to move on to greater things if the Lord tells us to, like He did with Abraham. It may be that we need to serve our entire life being ushers or children’s church workers, but the greater call may be along the way as we encourage, teach, equip, care and love people the Lord send on our way. The secret is to stay in touch so we would hear when the Lord needs us.

The Lord had a mission for Abraham, part of His great plan and Abraham set off without really knowing what’s next. The Lord has a mission for each of us, part of His great plan, are you prepared to find it and follow it?

Lord, please show me and I’ll go.

Thank you Lord that your Word went out from your mouth, via your servant’s pen, and it will not return to you empty, but will accomplish what you desire and achieve the purpose for which you sent it.

Please pass this on if you think others may benefit by it.
