Riding the Thermals

Good morning.

During a church service a brother had a wonderful vision. He saw an eagle riding the thermals. As it reached the highest point a particular thermal would take it, it searches for another thermal to lift it higher. Our brother compared the thermals with Holy Spirit revelation. As we seek revelation from the Holy Spirit, it will take us higher in our understanding of the Lord and the Kingdom. Every time we’ve reached the limit of a particular revelation, we need to be hungry for more. The higher the eagle goes the more it can see of the bigger picture.

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint,” (Isaiah 40:30, 31).

The Lord desires for us to know Him, to understand His plans and to be in fellowship with Him. There should be a delicate balance between doing good works and resting in the Lord, learning from Him. When Mary anointed Jesus with the expensive perfume and Judas complained about the waste we read in John 12:7-8: “‘Leave her alone,’ Jesus replied. ‘It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.’”

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what He said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’

‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her,’” (Luke 10:38-42).

In the vision that the Lord gave our brother, the eagle sought out thermals to take it higher. We should never be satisfied and content to be where we are in the Lord. “‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him’ — but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God,” (1 Corinthians 2:9, 10).

Mary obviously pleased the Lord, for she was interested in Him, getting to know Him, blessing Him, being aware of why He got involved in her life and supported Him in that. Martha, and Judas for that matter, was more concerned about the worldly things – the things people would see, the impression they would make, how good it would look and what people would say.

An eagle doesn’t have to labour hard to get the bigger picture. It doesn’t have to flap its wings vigorously to gain height. It just looks for the next thermal and rides it out as it enjoys the vision.
“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose,” (Philippians 2:12, 13).

We need to rely on the Holy Spirit, seeking to understand His revelation of who Jesus is, what the Lord has in mind for us, riding the revelation of the Holy Spirit to see God’s vision for His Kingdom and our role in it and then cooperate with Him as He uses us to accomplish His purpose.
Lord, show me how to ride the thermals of revelation.

Thank you Lord that your Word went out from your mouth, via your servant’s pen, and it will not return to you empty, but will accomplish what you desire and achieve the purpose for which you sent it.
