Get to Know God through Elijah (Part Nine) - Your Calling

Good morning.

I had a wonderful night. I’ve dreamt all night I was doing personal evangelistic outreach to the people of the night.

We’re at the last stages of our discussion into the life of Elijah and how we can reflect ourselves in his life. If you’ve read 1 Kings 19 we’ll proceed.

When Ahab had told Jezebel what Elijah had done, she sent a threatening message to Elijah: “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them,” (1 Kings 19:2). To me, as an outsider, it sounded an empty, meaningless threat – a typical desperate attempt of Satan to stop this powerful man of God. Reinhard Bonnke loves to call the devil a mouse with a microphone. Although he is powerless to those who rely on the Lord God, he is powerful to those who believe his lies.

Elijah, however, had been in the situation. Even though he had seen the power of God over and over again, he felt he had enough. “He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors,’” (1 Kings 19:4). The Lord, however, gently refreshed him and gave him an opportunity to rest and eat (read 1 Kings 19:5-9). In fact, the past few days did take a lot from him – physically and emotionally. Sometimes we are tired and don’t feel like doing something, but once we’re rested and refreshed we feel up to it again, don’t we. After he had been refreshed, he had forty days during which he could reconsider his decision (V8).

“And the word of the LORD came to him: ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’” (V9). Note it was once again a voice in his spirit, the same we’re hearing when the Lord speaks to us. The Lord gave him another opportunity to either pull out or recommit. Elijah, however, seemed to have made up his mind (read V10). The Lord then physically appeared to him in the gentle whisper and asked him again in an audible voice to make sure he didn’t misunderstand. “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (V13). Elijah had another chance to change his mind, but he stuck to his decision. The Lord then told him to anoint Elisha to succeed him. It was still some time before he finished his ministry though, for Elisha still needed to be discipled.

Sometimes we feel we’ve messed up and we’ve missed the call - we didn’t enter our ministry or completed it. Sometimes we feel like giving up for we’re tired and feel discouraged. The choice, however, is ours. We have a free will to decide whether we want to complete that which the Lord called us for, but our heavenly rewards and -treasure depends on our obedience to God and what we do on earth. The Lord will always give us another chance to complete what we’ve begun. These blogs are a continuation of something I’ve done for seven years and then gave up. Now it’s just more intense, because the time in which to complete what I’m called for is less. I’m also to complete something else I’ve stopped doing, which is why the Lord sent me a prophetess last week to confirm what He told me, and which is why I dreamed last night.

Where is the Lord taking you? Have you messed up? Just keep seeking what you’re called for and the Lord will restore it to you. You’re the only one on earth that can do what you’re called for.

Lord, please restore my ministry.

If you benefited from this, why don’t you link it to your Facebook or Twitter or forward the e-mail reminder to make it available to your friends? You can also use the e-mail link to pass it on. Please pray as well for its distribution to those who need it and feel free to ask questions or discuss thoughts.
